The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee has immediate openings for entry level elephant caregivers. The qualified applicants will be charged with maintaining female African and Asian elephants in three separate multi-hundred acre habitats. The chosen candidate will be trained (in-house) to manage elephants using the non-dominance technique of Passive Control. Candidate must have a high school diploma or GED, be physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs., have a strong work ethic and a progressive attitude toward the welfare of captive elephants. Job responsibilities include: daily cleaning and food preparation, record keeping, and light duty maintenance. In the required cover letter the candidate must demonstrate a knowledge and appreciation for the Sanctuary’s mission. Candidate must have experience either paid, volunteer, or internship, working with large mammals and/or experience which demonstrates a level of caring and compassion matching our goals and purpose (some past examples include Peace Corps service and nursing home work). Passion, empathy and academic study are all weighed when making our final determination on a candidate. The Elephant Sanctuary is a non-profit organization. The Sanctuary’s management philosophy offers a unique experience to qualified candidates. Salary range is $18,500-$22,000 depending on experience, and includes benefits; 6 months probationary period.
