An exceptional opportunity has arisen to join the Suffolk County Council's Suffolk Green Access team as the England Coast Path Project Officer, based at our Service Delivery Centre, Blyth Road Industrial Estate, Halesworth with hybrid working options including some working from home.

Your role and responsibilities

  • leading on the organisation and delivery of the practical works, developing specifications and obtaining quotes to establish the England Coast Path in Suffolk
  • project managing the delivery of the work including applying for grants from Natural England and managing budgets
  • you will be working closely with landowners, contractors and other stakeholders to agree works and access
  • contributing to planning future funding, management and marketing
  • you will work closely as one team within the Rights of Way and Access team
  • the role will involve working along the whole of the Suffolk coast.

You will need:

  • proven project management skills
  • very good communication and negotiation skills
  • experience in organising and delivering practical works on rights of way, or a comparable project
  • to understand and apply access legislation and guidance.

The team

  • the Rights of Way and Access team looks after the County Council’s Green Access network. Green Access includes 5,700km of public rights of way, open access and informal routes. Suffolk County Council’s ‘Suffolk Green Access Strategy 2020-2030’ covers the team’s main priorities with the vision 'to get more people using and enjoying Suffolk’s Green Access network.'
  • Our team includes the Definitive Map team, the Green Access team who promote access and the area-based teams who develop and deliver practical work, protect the public’s rights and deliver improvements to the network. You will sit within the Area team but work closely with the wider team.
  • the team is highly motivated with a passion for Suffolk’s natural environment.

Travelling requirements for your role

We positively encourage the use of technology to communicate, but in this role, you will need to travel to locations away from your contractual base, so you must either hold a full and current driving licence and have access to personal transport or meet the mobility requirements of the role through other reasonable and suitable means. This will include accessing remote sites over rough terrain inaccessible to vehicles.
