The Department of Energy and Climate Change has a vital purpose, to head off the twin risks of catastrophic climate change and a shortfall in UK energy supplies. Our vision is long term . To ensure that the UK makes a safe and secure transition to low carbon electricity, low carbon homes and buildings, and low carbon transport and industry.

To take forward this ambitious agenda DECC needs to increase the number of engineers in its teams to ensure that our decisions and actions are based on the best possible evidence and our complex and highly challenging delivery programmes contain the best engineers to ensure effective delivery.

We are looking to employ a Deputy Head of Engineering (Grade 6) and a Engineer (Grade 7) in the Central Strategy and Evidence Group working for Professor David MacKay, the Chief Scientific Advisor of DECC and author of “Sustainable Energy- Without the Hot Air” and Craig Lucas our Head of Engineering. We also seeking to recruit two additional experienced Engineers (Grade 7) to work on our Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Programme. CCS is DECC’s biggest programme. It’s a very exciting challenge and provides an opportunity to work alongside the UK’s developing CCS industry on some big engineering challenges.

If you are a skilled engineer, and you want to make a real difference, we really want to hear from you.

Successful candidates will be expected to undergo security clearance.

Closing date is: 17th December 2012

Interviews are expected to take place during January 2013.

DECC values equality and diversity in employment and welcomes applications from all sectors of society.
