Description: Ecology Action, a California-based non-profit, is a leading provider of innovative marketing and engagement programs that overcome barriers to reducing energy use and achieving environmental sustainability.

is responsible for supporting Ecology Action’s engineering work including: field delivery of engineering services, design and review of engineering specifications, engineering team management, assisting with the evaluation of new energy efficiency technologies, program delivery and development, securing and delivering direct customer engineering services.

Ecology Action is seeking a talented individual to fill the role of Engineering Manager in our Santa Cruz, CA office. This position will be responsible for leading the engineering team as well as utilizing their engineering skills and experience to identify, provide conceptual designs, and implement energy solutions for small businesses, casinos, lodging facilities, municipal buildings, and other customer types. The Engineering Manager will work independently to: identify and overcome obstacles hindering new measure adoption; collect necessary data to support analysis; organize and analyze information; model systems performance; develop engineering calculation solutions; provide budgetary cost analyses; prepare detailed documentation of recommendations; and present results and proposals to program managers. The Engineering Manager will have the demonstrated capability of managing projects from concept to completion, meeting strict time constraints, managing expectations of internal and external stakeholders, and supervising engineers and project managers. 
Duties: Management
• Develop workflows to ensure smooth delivery of all engineering services
• Work with business development team to generate new engineering oriented business
• Work with business development team to get direct engineering business
• Lead energy efficiency engineer, project manager, contracted engineering resources
• Coordinate with Ecology Action program management team for the successful delivery of energy efficiency programs
• Support positive client and customer service engagement 

Engineering
• Analyze systems and processes with heat transfer, fluid dynamic and thermodynamic principals for energy efficiency improvements. 
• Evaluate commercial & industrial HVAC, mechanical, electrical, hot water and building envelope systems and components for energy efficiency. 
• Prepare energy savings calculation tools, energy models and data analyses for new measures and new proposals.
• Perform and document energy audits, for commercial, institutional, municipal, lodging and residential customers using knowledge of utility data bases and HVAC equipment. 
• Develop simulated models using eQuest or other certified software’s to quantify energy savings.
• Develop and implement Measurement & Verification (M&V) plans to document realized energy savings. 
• Work with staff, manufacturers and consultants to develop work papers for new measures and refine existing work papers.
• Work with staff to move new measures through the “TIP” process.

Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 10 year experience OR
• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 5 year experience
• California Licensed Professional Engineer
• LEED Accredited Professional - Preferred
• Certified Energy Manager - Preferred
• Previous work experience in Retro-commissioning (RCx)
• Formal training on certified energy modeling software (e.g. eQuest)
Experience in code compliance and facilities and utilities engineering experience or with industrial experience related to process heating, HVAC, compressed air, chilled water, steam and hot water generation, and/or power generation systems. Candidate will also need to demonstrate strong verbal communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.

Compensation: In addition to cash compensation, Ecology Action offers a generous benefit package that includes flexible health benefits provided through a cafeteria plan and a 401k retirement plan with immediate vesting of the 4% employer contribution.
