Job/Research Summary Designs and performs engineering research projects that provide insights into hydrogen technology, systems, and infrastructure issues such as energy efficiency, economic & market feasibility, risk, portfolio balance and cost versus benefit. Design novel approaches for systems and infrastructure analysis. Deliver quality products that synthesize the inputs of team members and other analysts. Develop new methods, tools, and approaches that enable greater understanding of hydrogen systems.
Job Duties • Support NREL’s hydrogen systems analysis team activities.
• Conduct outreach events to collect stakeholder input on analysis activities, including workshops and expert reviews.
• Perform technical analysis of hydrogen technologies, systems, and infrastructure. 
• Conduct analysis using multiple methodologies, including process modeling, mass and energy balance, capital cost estimation, linear programming, systems dynamics, risk analysis, transition analysis, and others.
• Document methods and assumptions and prepare reports for publication or presentation.
• Perform work independently and in cooperation with other team members. As appropriate, coordinate work with capabilities resident in laboratories, universities, or other organizations.
• Follow all ES&H policies and procedures to ensure and maintain a safe working environment.
Required Education and Experience Relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes Demonstrates broad understanding and wide application of engineering technical procedures, principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines.

Demonstrates leadership in one or more areas of team, task or project lead responsibilities. Demonstrated experience in management of projects. Very good writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
Additional Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes • Familiarity with transportation energy analysis methods and hydrogen production, storage and delivery technologies.
• Ability to work well in a team
• Experience with techno-economic analysis of emerging technologies, in particular hydrogen infrastructure 
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong data collection, analytic, and writing skills
Preferred Qualifications • Knowledge of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies
• Experience with related hydrogen and fuel cell analyses
• Established base of contacts with individuals and institutions relevant to energy analysis. 
• Previous industry experience in renewable energy, fuel cell, and hydrogen technologies.
• Previous experience working with DOE/EERE Fuel Cell Technologies Program Office, government agencies, automotive companies, utilities, and fuel suppliers.
