Job Title

Community Engagement Officer

Conditions of Service

Flexible Hours Available.Holiday entitlement included in hourly rate.Four month contract.Minimum of 2 days per week.Contract to start July 2015.

The nature of this post means that out of hours and weekend working will be required.

Salary

£10.50 per hour

Location

This post will be based at the Head Office of The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country but the post holder will be expected to visit other sites across Birmingham and the Black Country to deliver job role.

We have an opportunity for the right person to join our engagement and development team over the summer to support with event delivery, coordinate additional events and consult with our members and the public over what they want from their Wildlife Trust.

Principal Responsibilities

Event Delivery and Coordination

  • Support the delivery of existing events and activities
  • Run summer events including stalls, walks and children’s activities
  • Coordinate and organise events for others to lead including specialist activities such as ‘bat walks’ and fungi forays

Children and Family Activities

Wildlife Watch is the junior membership for the Wildlife Trust movement. Watch groups and families work towards badges and awards demonstrating their nature conservation skills and knowledge.

  • Work with staff to develop and incorporate Wildlife Watch activities and resources into existing events

Coordination and Monitoring

  • Continue to develop volunteer coordination across the Trust
  • Gather feedback from event participants for monitoring purposes

Communications and marketing

  • Take photos of events and collect permissions for use in marketing materials

Project Development

  • Work with colleagues to identify income generation and funding opportunities for further engagement work

Person Specification

The perfect candidate for this role is enthusiastic about working with children and families, has a passionate commitment to the environment and the natural world and wants to work in a role focused on communication and engagement.

Experience

  • Organising and working at public-facing events or in a customer service role                                                 E
  • Working with children and families                                                                                                      E
  • Working in an outdoor or educational setting                                                                                          D
  • Taking photographic and/or video material for publication.                                                                        D

 

Knowledge

The post holder will be expected to have some understanding of:
