Description

The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institution of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The institute wishes to engage one Wildlife Biologist on a contractual basis in the above mentioned project. The assignment will be for a period of 1 year. The essential and desirable qualifications, terms and conditions and how to apply for the available position is given below. The Director, WII reserves the right to reject any candidature in view of incomplete information provided by the candidate or for any other reason.

Essential Qualifications

Experience on large carnivore research, habitat evaluation, estimating prey abundance and food habit analysis. He or she should have minimum 5 years of research experience on human-carnivores conflict and mitigation. Candidates having knowledge of Hindi and/or local language of Gujarat to interact with local community will be preferred.

Background : M.Sc. in Zoology/Environment Science/Wildlife Science/Life Sciences/ Biological Science from a recognized University with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.

Brief description of the project

The project aims to study the species- and site-specific wildlife damage problems, extent and severity of damage in and around select protected areas/managed forests in Gujarat state. The project also aims at evaluation of the control methods in practice and formulation of appropriate mitigation strategies, and establishes a database on wildlife damage problems.

GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS:

  1. The selection of the candidate will be based on `Walk-in-Interview’ scheduled to be conducted at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun on 12th October, 2009.
  2. Candidates who arrive for the Walk-in-Interview would register at 10:00 am on 12th October 2009. Candidates should bring the duly filled-in applications with attested true copies of testimonials of qualifications, experience, etc. along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations. All original documents should be produced at the time of registration.
  3. The selection offer to the candidate will be on purely contractual basis for a period of 12 months. Selected candidate will be paid a consolidated amount of Rs. 15,000/- per month.
  4. Canvassing in any form is liable to result in rejection of the candidature.
  5. Candidates must be willing to work for the project for at least one year from the date of joining.
  6. The field work is likely to commence from third week of October, 2009 and selected candidates need to join immediately or at a short notice.
