Engagement Director

Greenpeace Africa’s engagement strategy seeks to inspire and motivate communities in Africa to be at the forefront of demanding environmental justice and sustainable development. In framing the engagement work for GP Africa, the organization will be looking at promoting the cornerstones of its work: community leadership, solutions as the way to go and sustainability for Africa by Africans. The organization is currently seeking for an Engagement Director. This role as Engagement Director is pivotal in guiding, steering and growing not only the programme, but also the Organisational objectives under the subsequent strategies.

Job Specification:

• Guide, coach, motivate and enable the engagement team - strategic   communications, community engagement, volunteer management and digital mobilisation.

•Provide line management of the engagement staff.

•Provide an overarching strategy for GP Africa.

•Design, implement and monitor appropriate engagements strategies, output plans and provide advice on tools to foster Greenpeace Africa's campaigns with a clear focus on organisational and global growth.

•Ensure the global engagement vision is well translated and executed in the African context.

•Regularly liaise with the international office and other national offices around world.

•Responsible for managing relations to increase Greenpeace Africa's organisational and campaign profile and organisational visibility through the media.

•Providing overriding engagement guidelines for Greenpeace Africa as well as the global organisation (including spokesperson support).

•Ensure that major global campaigns receive adequate organisational visibility and support.

•Provide final sign-off and editorial support in the publication of any official material.

•Manage the engagement budget.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Masters/Post graduate qualifications in communications, media studies, journalism, development, management.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in management, programme development, journalism, communication and strong experience in all aspects of communications and lobbying.
  • Track record in managing complex teams and dealing with diversity.
  • Fluency in English and French
  • Experience in working in an international NGO would be an added advantage.
