Description

About Southwark

Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a forward thinking and ‘can do’ attitude. We are London’s largest local authority social landlord with over 55,000 homes. We are committed to our ‘Fairer Futures for All’ promise which ensures that our residents and businesses are central to everything we do.

In your role, we want you to feel supported, challenged and rewarded. You will benefit from our family-friendly policies including flexible working, home working, and a local government pension scheme, plus many other staff benefits. You will join a friendly, supportive team that strives for excellence and values its members.

The Role

Having declared a Climate Emergency in early 2019, the Council is committed to doing everything it can to become carbon neutral by 2030. The engineering department is now central to driving forward a modern and innovative approach to how we heat our homes and provide services to all our residents.

This new role will be instrumental in helping the Council to deliver on its ambition to be carbon neutral while also maintaining and improving reliability and affordability across a complex network of engineering assets. You will sit within an experienced and friendly engineering team that oversees and develops our extensive heat networks, working on the cutting edge of innovative low carbon technologies.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with the desire to make a difference in the short and long term. We will provide an opportunity for detailed engineering and project management alongside longer term strategic thinking.

About You

The Council is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced energy consultant or engineer with a passion to apply their knowledge in the field of renewable energy and low carbon heating to our extensive housing stock. You will combine your technical expertise with a knowledge of the housing sector and a care for our residents to deliver an excellent service at all times. You are likely to have degree level qualifications in a STEM subject as well as several years of post-graduate work experience in relevant roles.
