Scope of Responsibilities:
IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature has embarked on a campaign to raise awareness on the importance of the ecosystems for our human survival through its global programmes including energy under the Energy, Ecosystems and Livelihoods Initiative (EESLI) framework. The goal of the EESLI is: ‘to support and accelerate the transition to energy systems that are ecologically sustainable, socially equitable, and economically efficient while making full use of the best available technologies and governance arrangements’. In addition, IUCN is considering the implementation of low carbon energy projects in a selected number of small island states – the Energy Programme Officer selected for this position will provide support in the delivery and operation of this programme.
The incumbent will be responsible for:
• Providing efficient services to the Energy Programme to ensure that the
goal and agreed outcomes of the programme are effectively achieved.
• Assisting other members of the programme develop, plan and implement
programmes of work, with relevance and significance to the people and
governments of the Oceania region.
The Energy Programme Officer will be required to travel within the region, which
has health hazards such as malaria, dengue fever, non-potable water supplies and
poor sanitary facilities. A confident, mature and personable approach is expected
and also be gender and cultural sensitive.
The Energy Programme Officer will be required to provide timely and relevant
assistance on a wide range of issues within IUCN ORO Energy Programme and
should be capable of carrying out work in the areas of designated responsibility
under limited supervision.
