Assist the Energy, Forecasting and Modeling Group by participating in a variety of energy technology, applications, market, programs, and policy analyses with an emphasis on the development and application of techno-economic systems integration models, transmission modeling (including optimal power flow models), databases, and analytic tools.
With guidance from management and senior staff, assist in the programming and development of techno-economic systems integration and market models to better represent transmission and renewable electricity generation. Projects may include development and modification of existing models like NREL's ReEDS models and production cost models to better represent technology, transmission, and other systems engineering requirements for renewable integration.

Conceptualize the modeling changes, implement those changes, collect data for the change, quality control to ensure the modifications are working appropriately, develop new results, and report on the changes and results. Research trends in transmission planning and other power system issues and consider how to implement them into electric sector models. Work with the analysis staff at NREL to translate renewable energy attributes and characteristics and other electric system attributes into their impacts on electric systems.

With guidance from management and senior staff, assist others in conducting engineering and economic analyses on various energy issues. This will include reviewing existing literature, identifying and implementing economic and engineering methods for analysis, conducting the analysis, and documenting the findings.
Relevant Bachelor's Degree or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Limited use and application of engineering principles, theories and concepts.

Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to use various computer software programs.
Demonstrated strong computer skills including languages relevant to model development, optimization, and spreadsheet analysis. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Some experience in power system modeling, transmission modeling, renewable energy and efficiency technologies, economic analysis and related modeling and analysis. Experience in programming energy market or power systems models. Established base of contacts with individuals and institutions relevant to power system modeling and analysis. Master's degree in relevant physical science, engineering, or operations research.
