This is a leading name within the buildings supplies industry with over a thousand outlets within the UK. It has identified a role for a professional to reduce cost and consumption of energy used within the physical estate of the Group. To work closely with Branch Managers and Regional Directors, persuading them to act to reduce their consumption. To ensure that any capital investment in energy efficiency is effective and appropriate, to ensure that legal requirements, policy commitments and carbon reduction targets are met and to contribute to the development of a carbon reduction strategy. The role has to deliver year on year cost efficiencies and progression towards carbon reduction targets. Other time spans are dictated by legislation.
It is expected that two key tasks the job holder will fulfil are:
• designing a monitoring and targeting programme and an effective communication programme
• Deciding on where how and when individual branches and regions are supported to make changes.
Scale of task:
• The groups annual energy spend is currently more than £20 million and it consumes more than 237,000,000 KWH over more than 1200 sites
• The groups energy needs are met by mains electricity and gas with a small amount of heating oil.
• The groups carbon reduction target is a 20% reduction in intensity measure per million pounds of sales  by 2013 on 2005 levels.  There is a 15% interim target to be achieved by 2010.
• The group carbon reduction targets are an integral part of an Environmental Management System certified to ISO 14001
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Educated to degree level
- Able to demonstrate an in depth working knowledge of energy consumption management  practices and methodology and a proven record of having  implemented successful  monitoring and targeting and awareness campaigns
- Outstanding and creative communication skills
- Great  interpersonal skills with the ability to relay complex ideas to a broad spectrum of individuals
- Well organised with the ability to plan workload to achieve deadlines..
- Persuasive approach to problem solving at all levels
- Excellent report writing and numeracy skills.
- Able to demonstrate detailed knowledge of the relevant regulations practically the carbon reduction commitment and its practical requirements 
- Advanced technical knowledge about energy consumption monitoring and mechanical and electrical reduction solutions
- Good knowledge of environmental and resource efficiency issues outside of energy management.
- Knowledge of the broader issues around managing a large and diverse property portfolio.
- Willingness and ability to travel and to have nights away from home.
