Description

We are seeking an outstanding leader, with a deep understanding of the energy sector, to advise Government on how we might realise the full potential for energy efficiency in the UK.

A part-time, non-executive, expert Chair is sought to quickly help to build a strong reputation for the Department of Energy and Climate Change’s new Energy Efficiency Deployment Office (EEDO).

EEDO has been created to plan and manage a step change in energy efficiency, both through maximising the benefits of current energy efficiency policies and developing proposals to Government on the most cost effective further policies. EEDO, led by its Director, will provide a wider, energy efficiency strategy this year based on evidence and analysis. EEDO is staffed by over 50 policy officials and analysts and is embedded within DECC’s International Climate Change and Energy Efficiency (ICCEE) Group.

Role description

  • To contribute to strategic planning and structured decision-making and support the Director of EEDO
  • To strengthen connections with the business community and wider stakeholders
  • To communicate and promote the work of EEDO
  • To chair EEDO Steering Group Meetings and fulfil a time commitment of around 4 days per month. The Chair formally reports to the ICCEE Director General.

Person specification

Skills and experience must include:

  • Deep knowledge of the energy sector and the potential for energy efficiency deployment across all sectors including domestic, industrial and market scale interventions
  • A strong network of contacts across business and relevant organisations
  • Knowledge of finance and the potential for financing to support energy efficiency
  • An understanding of international good practice and innovation in this field Corporate Governance experience, possibly in previous Chair or Non Executive Director role, and well developed skills in reconciling divergent views or evidence.

The candidate will need to show evidence of having carried out substantial levels of decision making, and had responsibility at senior levels in organisations and sectors, to provide transferable insights to EEDO and Government more broadly. Such experience will probably have been acquired at senior level in a business environment.
