Background

Rising energy prices and cold temperatures are making it very difficult for millions of householders across the UK to stay warm and pay for their energy. To help alleviate this problem, Change Agents UK have partnered with two housing associations to deliver a 5 month project (starting in August) to help tenants reduce their energy costs.

Through targeted home visits, the focus will be on ensuring that residents better understand energy use around the home, such as how to set-up heating and hot water systems to run as efficiently as possible, whilst ensuring that the energy they do use is as cheap as possible through analysis of tariffs and available payment methods. If residents are found to be in debt, the post-holder will assist with setting up repayment plans, applying for help from trusts on their behalf and ensuring that the benefits they are entitled to are claimed.

CHANGE AGENTS UK are seeking an enthusiastic self-starter to join our energy team and deliver this exciting project based across Northamptonshire and Rutland.

Objective

To lead the day to day operations of the project, delivering a measurable reduction in energy cost and usage in every property visited. The project officer will be responsible for booking, delivering, reporting and following up additional questions that result from energy advice visits. The post holder will also be responsible for forging and maintaining close relationships with both housing associations and assisting them in other activities related to affordable warmth, such as training staff and producing materials.

Benefits of this opportunity

This opportunity offers the successful applicant the chance to gain real life management experience of delivering energy efficiency advice and guidance to householders through a range of activities including energy audits, through face to face communication and by helping two housing associations develop and implement a communications programme.

The postholder will also gain experience in training front line staff the basics of energy efficiency advice to publicise the service and extend its reach. The successful candidate will be given training that includes a City and Guilds level 3 qualification in Energy Awareness (if they haven’t already completed the training) and will be supported by a dedicated project manager. The opportunity is ideal for anyone looking to work with energy issues in a housing association, local authority or consultancy.

Future employment potential and options

This opportunity is a fixed term contract for 5 months, with a possible extension subject to successful grant funding applications. The experience and training gained throughout the project will give the postholder an excellent insight into the growing sector and will ensure they are well placed to pursue future employment in the field of energy efficiency and fuel poverty.
