The National Renewable Energy Laboratory - NREL - is the only federal laboratory dedicated to the research, development, commercialization and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.

NREL has an immediate opening within the Energy, Forecasting, and Modeling Group for an analyst to conduct policy and economic analyses using econometric, techno-economic, systems integration, and market models, databases, and other analytic tools. Contribute to analysis communications used by energy decision-makers and published in the professional literature. The analyst will be part of a variety of dynamic, cross-functional teams, and will deliver products with both fast-paced and longer-term time-frames.
With guidance from management and senior staff, assist in energy, economic, and policy analyses related to quantification of implications of increased contributions from renewable energy or energy efficiency systems. Evaluate implications of energy, economic, and environmental policies. Assess techo-economic system and market performance relative to technological and policy changes. Apply models and tools, including sophisticated energy-economic models, to these analyses.
Devise and implement appropriate approaches to address analytic questions. Conceptualize the comparisons between approaches, identify strengths and weaknesses of alternatives, develop analysis plans, collect supporting data, conduct modeling and analysis, and perform quality control.
Provide clear, targeted, and thorough communication regarding approach, methods, results, and implications. Work as part of a team to plan, execute, and deliver communications products that will include formal presentations and written research publications.
Relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Demonstrates broad understanding and wide application of engineering technical procedures, principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines.
Demonstrates leadership in one or more areas of team, task or project lead responsibilities. Demonstrated experience in management of projects. Very good writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
•Strong relevant experience, in economics, engineering, basic sciences, energy, environmental science, business, or other related field •Excellent written and oral communication skills •Advanced Excel skills •Familiarity with economic modeling techniques •Ability to produce exceptional graphics for reports and presentations •Familiar with current energy policy, market and technology issues •Ability to manage projects, including interpersonal skills, budgeting, planning, and communications
•Experience in renewable energy and efficiency modeling. •Experience in energy market model development or use. •Established base of contacts with individuals and institutions relevant to energy modeling and analysis. •Experience working with the federal government. •Experience with environmental analysis. •Experience in renewable energy, energy efficiency, applied economics, policy, or technology analysis. •Ability to program and use economic or statistical analysis software. •Familiarity with graphical visualization packages such as R and Tableau. •Ability to juggle multiple tasks and enjoy quick-turnaround analysis. •Experience collaborating with other energy analysts. •Proven track record of impact in energy analysis and project management.
