Role Purpose

GL Garrad Hassan is the world's largest independent technical and engineering consultancy for renewable energy. We are the recognised global authority on onshore and offshore wind power and also serve the wave, tidal and solar sectors.

This role will involve producing detailed, high quality reports and analysis for team members/leaders and potentially external organisations/professionals/clients in order to decide upon methodology for the purpose of assessing the expected energy production of wind farms.

The primary focus will be to undertake detailed analysis of the long-term wind speed trends in France and Northern Europe.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake wind data processing, quality checking, correlation analysis and statistical analysis and produce a report.
  • Undertake meteorological stations site visits, establish track records and assess measurements quality consistency.
  • All of the above work will be undertaking following Energy Group best practice analytical techniques.
  • You will be required to visit sites.
  • Any other duties as directed by line management.

Person Specification

To be successful in this role, and our business, you will need to demonstrate the following qualification, professional expertise and personal attributes:

Technical / Professional Expertise

On appointment:

  • Last year of engineering curriculum in an energy, mechanic, physics, atmospheric science or mathematics field or equivalent.
  • Aptitude for statistical analysis of data.
  • Ability to write and compose clear and accurate reports in English and French.


Desirable:

  • Exposure and familiarity with wind energy industry software and measurement techniques.
  • Fluency in English and French.

Competency Requirements

  • Good organisational and effective time management skills as you will be required to handle multiple projects.
  • Ability to work in a consultancy environment - operating to tight timescales.

The duration of the internship will be around 6 months (starting between July and September 2011).
