Under general supervision, the Energy Advocate will assist and educate homeowners as part of the Milwaukee Energy Efficiency Program (Me2) with basic energy efficiency practices, including providing information that will create lasting energy efficient behaviors and decision making. A primary function of the Energy Advocate will be to coordinate efforts with Focus on Energy's Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Program, including making the participation process more seamless by assisting homeowners with paperwork, contractor selection, understanding financing options, and general participation questions and/or concerns. The Energy Advocate will also assist in mobilizing targeted neighborhoods, including presentations to smaller-sized local groups, and try to address language barriers.  Individual(s) selected for this position must reside within the City of Milwaukee’s city limits.

1. Walk-Thru energy efficiency audits:
a. Inventory of all major appliances
b. Observation of base load savings opportunities
c. Adjustments to and education on thermostat settings
d. Adjustments to and education on efficient use of electronics (i.e. television settings, gaming systems use, power strips, etc.)
e. Directly install energy efficient equipment (e.g. CFL's and low flow aerators)
f. General notes on obvious building shell deficiencies
g. Data gathering on (or confirmation of) home structure and usage (i.e., home age, style and square footage; number of occupants, age, income; number of years current occupants in home, any major rehab work done, etc.) and historic energy usage

2. Program explanation:
a. Findings of walk-thru audit
b. Review of homeowner’s energy usage (from utility data)
c. Describe remaining steps involved in the process, including assessment and implementation of assessment recommendations
d. Explain roles of other experts/trades involved in the process

3. Scheduling and paperwork assistance:
a. Help homeowner schedule full energy assessment with consultant
b. Help homeowner select and schedule contractor(s)
c. Review financing options with homeowner
d. Assist homeowner in applying for financing

4. Education:
a. Efficient use of other high-end electric consumption (e.g., pool pump, hot tub, kiln, etc.)
b. Provide homeowner with additional energy efficiency information, tips, and “upkeep;” helping to ensure lasting results.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide accurate travel vouchers
2. Enter site visits in the appropriate data base
3. Attend team meetings
