Endangered Species Act Organizer

General position overview:
The Center for Biological Diversity seeks a motivated, creative and experienced organizer dedicated to defending the Endangered Species Act and the species it protects through campaigns, communications and engagement with other environmental and advocacy groups, community leaders, Center supporters, elected officials and the media.

Main duties:

  • Assist in the creation of a dynamic work plan to promote and defend the Endangered Species Act
  • Generate favorable print and Web news articles, TV and radio stories and influential commentary on the success and importance of the Endangered Species Act
  • Develop and regularly update materials for the Center’s website and on- and off-line campaigns highlighting threats to the Endangered Species Act and making the case for saving the Act
  • Anticipate upcoming challenges to the Act and develop response plans
  • Engage political leaders to obtain their support for a strong Endangered Species Act
  • Engage the public through action alerts and other tools to ensure that political leaders consistently hear constituent voices in support of the Endangered Species Act
  • Pursue favorable editorials and produce op-eds highlighting the importance of our work
  • Engage and coordinate with other environmental groups, religious organizations, hunting and fishing groups and others to join the Center’s campaign
  • Work with other Center staff to develop targeted campaign plans around endangered species and the Endangered Species Act
  • Assist in day-to-day communications at the Center, including writing, editing and distributing press releases; managing the media database; providing content for online and print materials; and working on special projects

Essential qualities, qualifications and skills desired:

  • Dynamic and assertive personality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High comfort level managing immediate and long-term deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience working with a team and independently
  • At least three years experience running grassroots campaigns
  • A passion for and knowledge of the natural world, biodiversity and the Endangered Species Act
  • Experience conducting research, including database work, highly desirable
