The European Environmental Bureau is recruiting for two Emissions Database Assistants The European Environmental Bureau (EEB) is looking to recruit two Emissions Database Assistants to work closely with colleagues in the Industrial Production team. We are looking for two highly motivated self-starters, eager to learn and contribute to the EEB’s work. We offer two 4-month paid internship contracts (convention d’immersion professionnelle) based in the EEB office in Brussels. Large Combustion Plants (LCPs) running on fossil fuels are responsible for a significant proportion of anthropogenic pollutant emissions. Coal plants alone are the largest source of sulphur dioxide and mercury emissions in Europe and one of the largest industrial sources of emissions of nitrogen oxides, arsenic, lead and cadmium. Air pollution from the EU’s coal-fired power stations caused an estimated 22,300 premature deaths in 2010, as well as exacerbating asthma and contributing to dangerous levels of mercury found in the blood of thousands of babies born in Europe. The operating permits and compliance/inspection reports of these plants are currently difficult to find in many EU countries (see the EEB’s 2017 report “Burning: The Evidence”). The EEB is setting up a database that would enhance transparency and expose infringements. More specifically, the intern(s) will:
