Onsite Volunteer CoordinatorPosition available at the Elephant Valley Project
DescriptionHere at the Elephant Valley Project visitors and volunteers are a key aspect to this project, after the elephants of course. We have day visitors, short term independent travelers, week long group programs and long term volunteers. All visitors and volunteers visit the elephants and watch them in their natural habitat of the 1600hec sanctuary, while also volunteering to continue to develop the site for elephant care. As we get more elephants, new projects and an increasing number of volunteers, our project site itself is constantly expanding! We are constantly working on projects which include farming projects, small construction (eg. Trails, fences and bridges) nursery and reforestation projects, maintenance, run courses onsite and more. We are currently looking to fill the position of Onsite Volunteer Coordinator, to help manage the site, the daily schedules, manage volunteers work tasks and be the onsite contact point for the volunteers. Basically organising who is who, where they are going and what they are doing to develop this amazing project. The position will be based onsite, helping with the day-to-day organisation of visitors, Sun evening to Fri evening. We will provide your own room and food onsite. Please note the site has limited electricity and no Internet access. You will receive a small weekly wage to help you cover your expenses, as food and accommodation in town on the weekend will be at your own cost. An initial commitment of 6 months is required as a minimum, however we would prefer at least 1 year. We are looking for someone to start at the end of early-mid April. ExperienceEssential - Experience managing groups of people - Strong communication skills, as our visitors are all ages and come all over the world - Interest in sustainable development and conservation - Desire to learn new language and ability to work with non English speaking staff - Current first aid certificate - Driving License - You will need to be a bubbly, outgoing and resourceful person who is ready to get their hands dirty Preferable - Background in outdoor education/farm management/ permaculture or other conservation experience - Basic knowledge of conservation and a keen interest in wildlife essential Responsibilities- Develop and plan weekly tasks with the Project Manager and local staff, then manage volunteer - Work on projects with the volunteers during the day, together with local staff - Be the onsite contact person for visitors, helping if they are sick or have any emergencies, day and night - Engage visitors during meals and night time activities - Organise common areas - Other duties as required, including sometimes covering other staff eg elephant guides
