Primary Job Functions
Supporting Electronics, Controls, and Firmware Team for Solar Concentrator Stirling Program:
  • Independently troubleshoot electronics issues using design specifications, schematics, hands-on techniques, and reference material.
  • Assemble, maintain, and repair PowerDish electronics subsystems.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including both electronics equipment (oscilloscopes, function generators, soldering stations, etc.) and test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot legacy systems as well as new designs.
  • Enter accurate details for all observations into enterprise-wide test tracking and issue ticketing system.
  • Clearly communicate assembly and diagnostics results/issues with other engineering team members
  • Provide technical support (software, sensors and electrical noise management) for both bench testing and system field-testing.
  • Fabricate and/or assemble parts, cables, cable harnesses, and test fixtures.
  • Implement blue-wire changes to prototype electronics hardware.
  • Demonstrate competence for component-level diagnostics, board-level diagnostics and repair, and subsystem (enclosure-level) diagnostics and repair.
  • Recommend changes in circuitry or assembly specifications to simplify assembly or maintenance of electronic subsystems.
  • Package finished subassemblies for shipment to field teams.
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:
Required
  • General competence with embedded controls circuits and high power generation/conversion circuits and assemblies.
  • Able to read and understand technical drawings, datasheets, plus verbal and written work instructions.
  • Highly motivated self-starter capable of working independently and in group settings.
  • Organized and able to multi-task.
  • Sufficient education and experience: Associates Degree (EET) preferred, although relevant experience will be considered.
  • Minimum four years hands-on experience as a versatile electronics technician with custom circuit board diagnostics and repair experience.
  • Must have initiative.  Will work independently.  Must possess a strong desire to learn.
Desired
  • Experience in high power analog and embedded digital hardware troubleshooting and repair. 
  • Experience working with custom firmware applications to facilitate diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • LabView experience a plus, for data acquisition and automated test equipment use.
  • Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and communicate the situation to other skilled technical team members.
Education/Experience:
Required
  • Authorization to work in U.S.A.
 
Desired
  • Associates degree (EET) with 4+ years experience preferred or comparable hands-on experience. 
Working/Environmental Conditions:
  • Office, testing laboratory, outside, occasional travel as needs demand.
Physical and Mental Demands:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; use a computer keyboard; use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret complex data information and documents; analyze and solve complex problems; use math an mathematical reasoning; perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent projects; work under changing and intensive deadlines; and interact with the Director of Engineering, Director of Operations, direct reports, Research and Development Department, outside technical experts.
