juwi solar Inc. (JSI) based in Boulder, Colorado, and majority-owned by Germany-based juwi Holding AG is a developer and turnkey EPC contractor of solar power plants throughout North America.  JSI’s main focus is the development, construction and operation of utility-scale power plants (1MW or larger).

JSI has established an aggressive target for bringing solar power on line over the next several years and is looking to fill the Electrical Engineer position to support the company’s growth.  The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for developing electrical engineering designs for Company projects.

JSI is looking for a team player who will have demonstrated effective organization and communication skills, including written work and oral presentations. The position will be based in Boulder, Colorado and will report to the Sr. Electrical Engineer.

Principal Position Description:

  • Develop preliminary and advanced electrical engineering design concepts for Company projects.  Develop three line and single line diagrams, or review such diagrams prepared by others.
  • Provide well detailed electrical project design inputs such as wire and conduit types, panel configurations, transformer specifications, and other power system components.
  • Oversee detailed electrical engineering design work performed by consultants.  Provide input to the design process.
  • Develop specifications for various electrical equipment and components (excluding inverters, modules and SCADA equipment).
  • Work with equipment suppliers and system integrators in developing custom equipment for use in JSI projects.
  • Review project designs during development and provide input into design standards.  Provide input and oversight of Bills of Materials for projects.
  • Support the transmission and distribution interconnection request process.
  • Provide interconnection cost estimates including substation, overhead line, and switchgear costs.  Maintain and update interconnection cost model with any new data and information.
  • Complete fault and arc flash evaluations and reports of all JSI plants in the development stage.  Create arc flash labels for equipment.
  • Develop a schedule of electrical engineering activities for assigned projects, within the overall project schedule requirements.  Ensure schedules are met and advise other project stakeholders of any issues.
  • Provide assistance to Construction, Procurement and other groups as needed during the contractor RFP process.   Review electrical scopes of work for completeness.
  • Support resolution of issues arising during construction and commissioning.
  • Support the resolution of operating issues as required.
  • Gain a strong understanding of JSI projects’ major system components and design concepts, supporting JSI’s engineering team in the development of detailed designs that continually strengthen JSI’s industry leading position as a designer and builder of the most technologically advanced and cost effective PV projects.
  • Visit project sites periodically.
  • Attend team meetings if required to provide electrical engineering input to the project planning and problem solving process.

Position Requirements:

  • Accredited university degree in electrical engineering and 5 plus years of electrical engineering and design experience.    Construction and field experience
  • Demonstrated experience with renewable energy generation type projects is required.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal regulations and requirements that apply to major power and energy design and construction projects.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and power systems analysis software, preferably SKM Power Tools.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Possess exemplary standards of honor, safety, management, ethics, quality, and productivity.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and analyze situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to give presentations.

  • Autonomous: take initiative and organize work in an independent manner.
  • Willing to travel for project related work as may be required.
