Excellent opportunity for an experienced individual to take a senior role in the active development and growth of a top 3 multi-disciplinary Planning & Environment team.

Job Description

Capita Symonds is looking for an experienced EIA specialist to take on the role of EIA Technical Director within their Planning & Environment Division.

The role will be multi-faceted requiring the chosen individual: to provide team leadership alongside other senior members of the team; to act as a mentor to junior members of the team; and to take on the role of Project Director on a variety of EIA / SEA / SA / EMS related projects. As a Project Director they will be responsible for: providing strategic direction and oversight; developing and maintaining client relationships; and reviewing and sign-off of all outputs and deliverables.

In addition to taking technical and business development accountability for the EIA team, this role will require the individual to be closely involved with the wider development and growth of Capita Symonds’ whole Planning and Environmental consultancy business.

 

Requirements

It is essential that the individual has considerable consultancy experience and particular expertise in project management of environmental assessments and the provision of environmental advice on major development and infrastructure projects.

They should have a thorough understanding of the EIA and planning processes and should have an extensive and proven track record in achieving consents for a diverse range of projects including iconic, sensitive and controversial schemes.

The individual will have Chartered and preferable Fellow status of their chosen professional body and should be a recognised expert in their field, having significant experience in negotiation and liaising with Local Planning Authorities and Statutory and non-Statutory Consultees, as well as being an accomplished expert witness.

 

Responsibilities

Given the nature of Capita Symonds’ multi-disciplinary and growing international portfolio of work, it would be desirable that the individual has international as well as UK experience as well as experience across a full range of market sectors including: water, railways, roads, airports, ports, waste, housing, mixed use, ecotowns, renewable energy, leisure and tourism. Preference will be given to any individuals who can demonstrate additional related expertise, for example in relation to due diligence, mergers and acquisition and bank technical advisor work. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and developing the high technical standards within the EIA team. They will provide strategic direction and oversight; develop and maintain client relationships; and review and sign-off team outputs and deliverables.
