JOB OVERVIEW: The McHenry County Conservation District is currently seeking an Education Program Assistant to design, implement, deliver, and evaluate natural and cultural history programs for a wide variety of audiences throughout the District’s service area.The employee may be required to work evenings and weekends in order to best meet the needs of diverse program audiences.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Job responsibilities include:
Assists the Education Program Coordinator with planning, preparation, presentation, and clean-up for school field trips and public programs.
Assists with cultural and natural history special events.
Develops, promotes, delivers and evaluates programs for a variety of public audiences.
Assists with the writing of interpretive materials and development of loan materials, displays and exhibits.
Helps with the training, scheduling, monitoring, and evaluation of volunteers assisting with programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:Qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Environmental Education or Interpretation, Outdoor Education, Science Education, Natural Resource Management, or related field.
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in environmental education program design and delivery or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Demonstrate the ability to work with a wide range of age and ability levels among the general public including children, adults and teachers.
General working knowledge of environmental education, interpretive teaching methods and techniques, and the natural history of Illinois.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Current and valid driver’s license.
