We are seeking an educator who has a passion for marine life and conservation. You will help to raise awareness amongst guests to Reef HQ Aquarium about marine life, the Great Barrier Reef and the issues affecting the Reef. Your enthusiasm and passion for the subject will help to educate and inspire people about what they can do to help to conserve and protect the Reef for the future.

The position assists with the facilitation and delivery of education and interpretive programs and services within Reef HQ Aquarium.  This may include underwater presentations (if appropriately qualified) and video conferencing as well as face to face talks and tours of the Aquarium.

THE DUTIES

Under routine direction, the Education Officer will:
1. Present the daily program of interpretive talks and tours at Reef HQ Aquarium and deliver education programs to student groups of all ages and stages of learning.
2. Assist with the development and maintenance of resources used in interpretive and educational activities including drafting exhibit signage, education activity sheets and lesson plans for talks and tours or education programs.
3. Provide support to the work area by efficiently managing bookings and general enquiries regarding educational products and services.
4. Assist coordinate the daily program of interpretive activities at Reef HQ Aquarium and ensure activities run to schedule.
5. Build and maintain positive relationships with team members and volunteers, sharing information effectively to assist volunteers keep up to date with Reef HQ Aquarium products and services.

THE PERSON

- You will be a genuine “people person” with an education background and ability to communicate with people of all ages and learning abilities
- You will have a passion for marine life and coral reefs and have an interest in marine conservation
- You will have excellent organisational skills, be able to problem solve quickly and remain flexible and adaptable in changing situations
- You will have a strong focus on ensuring that high quality experiences and services are delivered to guests.

Applicants must:

1. Be Australian citizens to be eligible for engagement.
2. Possession of a Blue Card, issued under the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act (2000) or the ability to obtain one is mandatory.
3. The successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a BASELINE security clearance; failure to do so will result in termination of employment.
4. Possession of a current first aid certificate, CPR certificate and oxygen provider certificate or the ability to obtain is mandatory.

Desirable:

* Well-developed understanding and knowledge of coral reef ecosystems, marine biology or related fields.
* Applicants must have minimum dive qualifications of Divemaster or ADAS or the ability to obtain these qualifications within a reasonable timeframe.
