The National Wildlife Federation is seeking a paid Education Advocacy Intern based in Washington, DC. The successful candidate is a motivated individual with strong organizational, research and written and verbal communication skills. The Intern will report to NWF’s Director of Education Advocacy and assist the Education Advocacy Team as needed in advocating for environmental education, connecting children to nature, and green jobs education and training to congressional members and federal agency officials. The Education Advocacy Intern will monitor and analyze federal legislation and advocate for increased appropriations for programs of interest. The Intern will also assist the Education Advocacy Team by: managing a monthly “education policy bulletin” for external audiences, assisting with NWF’s congressional database and web site management for the team, preparing and disseminating materials to Capitol Hill, researching policy issues and drafting fact sheets and reports, developing legislative target lists, setting up meetings with congressional staff, working with the grassroots staff on education action alerts, attending hearings and mark ups, and performing some administrative duties as needed. Knowledge of and ability to use computer software programs (e.g., MS Office) is required. Experience in policy advocacy or demonstrated commitment to environmental issues is a plus.
