Description

Opportunity Overview:

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a volunteer to assist with the development of a new online learning initiative structured around the creation of a MOOC (Massive Open Online Couse) in conservation. This will involve assisting in the development of online content, sourcing online images and media to illustrate learning materials, and moderating and interacting with the online learning community.

Candidates should ideally have outstanding attention to detail, creativity and excellent communication skills, and an undergraduate or Masters level degree in biology, conservation, technology, or education. A good working knowledge of online learning platforms and online media (images and video) will be an advantage.

The volunteering opportunity is for three to six months, starting in July 2015. The role is ideally three to four days per week and is based within ZSL’s Conservation Programmes department in Regent’s Park, London. Candidates should ideally live within easy daily reach of ZSL London Zoo. All applicants must be able to show that they have permission to work in theUK.

Please note that this is a voluntary position. However, ZSL will reimburse travel costs from within the Greater London area (up to the equivalent of a weekly zone 1-6 travel card) and up to £5 per volunteering day for lunch.

In this role, the voluntary intern will benefit from:

  • Learning about the principles of conservation
  • Experience with the mechanics of creating and implementing online learning courses, including online videos
  • Learning about the tools and techniques for analysing the performance of online learning courses
  • Experience in researching conservation-related content in video archives and coordinating permissions for use of pre-existing media content in an online context
  • Learning about the tools and techniques for effective electronic assessments of learners
  • Experience of how a conservation NGO operates
  • Interaction with staff and students in CP, Discovery & Learning, IoZ and Living Collections
  • Potential for interaction with project partners (Floream, United for Wildlife)

To Apply:

Please complete the application form and return to HR (hr@zsl.org) by 16th July 2015. We regret that we will only be able to contact applicants who have been selected for interview.
