Description
Overview:

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation. ZSL’s mission is to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats. This is realised by carrying out field conservation and research in over 50 countries across the globe and through education and awareness-raising at our two zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, inspiring people to take conservation action.

Role Profile:

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a voluntary intern to assist with the development of the United for Wildlife online learning project. This will involve assisting in the development of online content, sourcing online images and media to illustrate learning materials, interacting with the online community and creating promotional content.

Candidates should ideally have good attention to detail, creativity and communication skills, and a background in biology, conservation, technology, or education. A good working knowledge of online learning platforms and online media (images and video) will be an advantage.

The volunteering opportunity is for three to six months, starting in June 2016. The role is ideally three to four days per week and is based within ZSL’s Conservation Programmes department in Regent’s Park, London. Candidates should ideally live within easy daily reach of ZSL London Zoo. All applicants must be able to show that they have permission to work in the UK.

Please note that this is a voluntary position. However, ZSL will reimburse travel costs from within the Greater London area (up to the equivalent of a weekly zone 1-6 travel card) and up to £5 per volunteering day for lunch.

In this role, the voluntary intern will benefit from:

  • Learning about the principles of conservation.
  • Experience with the mechanics of creating and implementing online learning courses, including online videos.
  • Learning about the tools and techniques for analysing the performance of online learning courses.
  • Experience in researching conservation-related content in video archives and coordinating permissions for use of pre-existing media content in an online context.
  • Learning about the tools and techniques for effective electronic assessments of learners.
  • Experience of how a conservation NGO operates.
  • Interaction with staff and students in CP, Discovery & Learning, IoZ and Living Collections.
  • Interaction with project partners (Floream, United for Wildlife).
