Job Title: Ecotoxicologist
Business Unit: ADAS Environment Group
Location: Boxworth 
Pay Level: £19,044 - £36,764 (dependant on experience)
Contract Type: Fixed term (1 Year)

Purpose of the job: 
To support the provision of research & consultancy services in the area of regulatory Ecotoxicology, with an emphasis on the terrestrial environment. This is primarily a desk based role.

Key challenges:
• The candidate must be able to get to grips with new subject areas, developing technical know-how alongside commercial awareness.
• Supervision will be given but the candidate must be self motivated and willing to learn across a broad subject area. Strong analytical skills required. The candidate must be able to make sound decisions, for example as to the quality & relevance of data gathered.
• Overall workload will be organised by the line manager, but the candidate will be required to investigate issues under their own initiative. 
• The candidate will be required to attend meetings with clients after appropriate training/induction period, under supervision of senior colleagues. 

Key Responsibilities:
• Undertake routine chemical risk assessments for vertebrate & invertebrate wildlife (agrochemicals, veterinary medicines, biocides, general chemicals)
• Conduct detailed literature reviews to support commercial and Government-funded projects
• Apply ecological knowledge to regulatory issues
• Interpret and summarise chemical exposure and effects data
• To write clear and concise technical and analytical reports
• Support the development of project proposals and concept notes
• Provision of statistical support to the wider group
• Maintenance of compliance with relevant quality systems

Experience and Skills:
Essential
• 1-2 years’ experience of regulatory risk assessment experience or experience of regulatory test methods for non-target organisms 
• Graduate in Zoology, Ecology or closely related discipline or equivalent
• Demonstrable knowledge of a relevant area, e.g. arthropods, soil organisms, vertebrates, aquatic organisms, higher plants
• Strong analytical skills required
• Basic understanding of agricultural processes & crop protection
• Ability to: act on own initiative; learn new concepts; give attention to detail
• Proven ability to write clear and thorough literature reviews
• Effective communicator
• Report writing experience
• Flexible approach
• A full UK driving licence

Desirable
• Relevant post graduate qualification or equivalent
• Statistical expertise

Training will be provided to the successful candidate. We would seek proof of written work and relevant technical knowledge. There is considerable potential for development of this role.
