Qualifications
  • Course background (Bachelor’s degree preferred) in ecology or related field. Experience in environmental education programming is a plus.
  • Ecology teaching experience with school children and the public.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of the public.
  • Excellent computer, writing and organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to maintain confidentiality, work independently, and multi -task.
Part time, hourly, 10 month position (January – October 2013), averaging 25 hours per week with a variable schedule to match programming. Position includes the possibility of teaching full time at our summer camp.

Duties

Support ecology education programs for students, teachers and the general public at the Cary Institute and nearby schools.

  • Help teach and develop curriculum for Ecosystem Exploration programs for school groups at the Cary Institute, and Schoolyard Ecology programs at local schools.
  • Teach in the Summer Ecology Camp (full time for up to 10 weeks).
  • Assist in all aspects of scheduling and preparation for school programs and teacher workshops. 
  • Provide in-school support to teachers as they implement curriculum.
  • Support other facets of the Institute’s education programs, including teacher workshops, public outreach and education research.
