This position will require the candidate to provide strong technical input to projects across the UK, in particular:
• Ecological and protected species surveys and assessments
• Ecological management and monitoring during construction
• Species exclusions and translocations
• Environmental impact assessment
• Ecological support to engineering and construction projects
• Preparing species disturbance licenses, consultation with Natural England.
The work is highly rewarding and the client is very much at the front-end in species protection and mitigations, preventing or reducing negative impacts on protected and notable species and protecting species and enhancing the conservation importance of sites. You will be working in a dynamic and very supportive team environment, working alongside other ecologists, engineers and project managers. This position offers a real opportunity to develop your own technical and project manage skills.
To be considered for this position the candidate is expected to have:
• Good protected species knowledge and suitable experience of working within the UK consultancy market.
• Holder of a NE protected species licence, notably great crested newts, dormice or bats. An ecologist with a bat licence or working towards a bat licence would be desirable.
• Good understanding of UK nature conservation legislation and policies.
• Understanding and practical experience in dealing with protected species and mitigation measures, previous experience of working in the power and water industry would be desirable.
• Management and co-ordination of ecological projects.
• Good understanding of ecological impact assessments and experience in both contributing towards the ecology chapter of an EIA and in the co-ordination of ecological surveys as part of an EIA.
• Willingness to travel across the UK, providing ecological support to other offices.
• Driving licence.
• Full member of IEEM
