AWF is seeking a highly motivated professional who will responsible for ensuring that ecological information is integrated into natural resource planning, implementation and documentation.
The position provides information on key ecological priority interventions and on monitoring to AWF’s new Imatong Mountain and Watershed Conservation Project in South Sudan, leading in acquiring, analyzing and integrating ecological information into the specific landscapes program implementation and learning. This position will entail travel to the field and work with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Undertake/implement ecological work in the landscape
- Manage key aspects of the ecological work in the project
- Provide information on key conservation targets, threats and priority interventions in a timely manner
- Undertake land-use and natural resource management planning with stakeholders and landscape team
- Provide support on specific species research linking with AWF science team
- Responsible for development and management of appropriate partnerships with other ecologists, researchers and other stakeholders (community) relevant to conservation science.
- Develop simple intervention measures from scientific studies carried out in the project
- Contribute significantly to program design and learning
- Be active in proposal writing and fundraising for AWF projects
- Responsible for providing relevant information needed for AWF’s Program Impact Measurement Assessment on a timely basis, particularly on priority interventions but also on general monitoring information on species, habitats and key threats
- Provides support to other areas of AWF program in project including conservation logic for interventions in single species research, enterprise, land, capacity building and leadership
- Lead in integrating ecological information to AWF Landscape Program-adaptation
Qualifications
- PhD or Masters Degree (Msc) in relevant field in ecology of natural resources
- 5 years’ experience and above if MSc. PhD is preferred with 2-3 years’ experience post qualification
- Enviromental Impact Assessment and statistical of research, wildlife species/habitats surveys, basic understanding of GPS techniques, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), software skills.
- Participant in several conservation forums and has published in peer-reviewed journal(s)
- Ability to work with various stakeholders such as community projects, managed assistants. Land-use/natural resource management planning and implementation
- Facilitatory skills an added advantage
- Strong team player
- Knowledge of participatory planning methods and good presentation skills
- Computer Literacy – Word, Spreadsheet, statistical package (SPSS, SAS)
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide group of collaborators, including proactive sharing of information and reporting
