We are offering an exciting opportunity for an ecologist or senior ecologist to expand their skills and experience by joining our Ecology team in Edinburgh. The role will be to: - Assist the team leader with operational issues in the Edinburgh office
- Help to develop the ecology business both internally and externally
- To provide technical support to other members of staff;
- To liaise with other ecologists throughout the company to provide a consistent and integrated service to clients;
- To continue to develop technical skills
The majority of work is likely to be regional, but there will be technical collaboration and networking, with the 60 or so ecologists working within the company around the U.K. At all levels our ecologists are committed to providing specialist advice, protected species assessment, habitat management in connection with infrastructure projects, site restoration and rehabilitation, specialist services for planning applications and environmental impact assessments. We also provide an expert witness service in support of public enquiries, appeals and tribunals.
Successful candidates will ideally have: - A degree in a relevant discipline
- For the Ecologist position, relevant experience as an ecologist, including working in a consultancy and with an appropriate level of technical knowledge is required
- For the Senior Ecologist position, we are looking for strong experience as an ecologist in a similar role with major consultancy
- A good understanding of the role of consultants within the commercial sector and have the vision and ability to identify and expand new areas of business for their ecology team
- Phase 1 habitat survey and protected species survey capability, ideally with an area of specialism. A survey licence for one or more protected species would be beneficial. We are particularly interested in candidates who are licensed bat surveyors.
- Capability and experience of producing and implementing protected species development licence applications
- Experience of EIA preferred and capability and experience of designing and implementing large scale ecological mitigation schemes
- Experience in writing technical reports and proposals
Senior candidates are expected to have more developed consultancy skills, for example to be able to demonstrate that they have experience of project management, budget control and an awareness of risk. They would also be expected to show an aptitude for staff management. Applicants for this position must have a full valid driving licence and the right to work in the UK without restriction
