LEMUR PROJECT: HLF Heritage Training Bursary Placements

Are you intent on a fast-track into a career in UK nature conservation but have limited experience?  Project LEMUR offers 9-months funded bursary placements that are supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.  Each trainee receives a training bursary.  Childcare allowances are available.  The placements will begin on Thursday April 17th 2014. 

Choose from the following list of 18 Heritage Training Bursary Placements


(1M) *Marine Heritage Environmental Education Trainee:  Marine Biological Association (Plymouth, Devon) (1 Placement).  Train in biological surveys for climate change indicators and non-native species, citizen science, dealing with biological recording database.

 

(2M) *Marine Heritage Community Outreach Trainee:  Marine Biological Association (Plymouth, Devon) (1 Placement).  Train to engage different communities in marine activities, citizen science, web publishing. Gain species id. skills from both placements.

 

(3M) *Heritage Marine Education Trainee:  Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust (Occombe Farm, Paignton, Devon) (1 Placement).  Train to be the marine input to school, adult, family and public events and lead: mini-beast hunts, pond dipping, rock-pooling environmental art, bushcraft, canoeing and sea school activities. Gain species id. skills.

 

(4M) *Heritage Environmental Education Trainee:  Ambios (Totnes, Devon) (1 Placement). Training in connecting people and wildlife - learn how to run ‘environmental education’ events, produce interpretive medias; deliver walks, talks and interactive heritage education events (including developing on-line mapping).

 

(5M) *Biodiversity Land Management TraineeAmbios (Totnes, Devon) (1 Placement).  Training in biodiversity surveys (plants, mammals) and practical heritage tasks as well as leading educational engagement activities.  Manage farm animals for wildlife diversity. Develop a biological recording scheme using our dynamic online map.

 

(6M)  Landscape Heritage Trainee: The Conservation Volunteers (Totnes, Devon) (1 Placement).  Train in environmental education activities with a practical conservation focus - wildlife surveys, woodland management, footpath and access work, bridge construction, hedge laying, fencing, invasive species control, tree planting and construction and volunteer management.

 

 (7R)  Heritage Conservation Skills Trainee: Herefordshire Nature Trust (Hereford, Herefordshire) (1 Placement)

Practical habitat management; habitat & species survey; Geographical Information Systems (GIS) & wildflower establishment techniques. 

 

(8R)   Ecological Consultancy Assistant Trainee: Worcestershire Wildlife Consultancy (Worcester, Worcestershire) (1 Placement).

Habitat and protected species surveys; biological data searches; collation of information for professional reports, response to general enquiries; Practical habitat management and monitoring for wildlife.

 

(9R)  Ecological Heritage Survey Trainee: Wye Valley AONB (Monmouth, Monmouthshire) (1 Placement).  Habitat and species surveys (Phase 1 habitats, deer impacts on woodlands, water voles & mink).  Produce survey reports and use Geographical Information Systems.

 

(10R) Ecological Heritage Trainee: Gwent Wildlife Trust (Dingestow, Monmouthshire)  (1 Placement).  Biodiversity project work associated with Phase 1 surveying; Water vole project; Dormouse  monitoring; Meadow restoration; Geographical Information Systems.

 

(11/12R)  Ecological Assistant Trainee: Ecology Unit - Warwickshire County Council (Warwick, Warwickshire) (2 Placements)

Habitat/species surveys, planning advice, record centre management, education & partner projects. www.warwickshire.gov.uk/museums.

(13U)  Nature Reserves Trainee: Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust (Horncastle, Lincolnshire) (1 Placement).  Practical conservation, wildlife surveys, monitoring, species I.D. and habitat management skills. Species protection work including little tern, grey seal & natterjack toad.

 

(14U)  *Heritage Conservation Skills & Education Trainee: Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust (Nottingham, Nottinghamshire) (1 Placement). Practical conservation and habitat management, environmental education, surveying and monitoring.

 

(15U)  *Heritage Conservation Skills & Education Trainee: Sheffield Wildlife Trust (Sheffield, Yorkshire) (1 Placement). Practical skills in land management and community engagement. Heritage-focused environmental education and habitat management activities.

 

(16U)  *Woodland Heritage Skills Trainee: Sheffield City Council (Sheffield, Yorkshire) (1 Placement). Manage local woodlands and utilise local timber in traditional woodland crafts. Deliver practical works as part of a Ranger Team.

 

(17U)  *Heritage Conservation Skills Trainee: Derbyshire Wildlife Trust (Belper, Derbyshire) (1 Placement). Ecological monitoring and recording through Geographical Information Systems (GIS), habitat management plans & reports, visitor engagement on nature reserves.

 

(18U)  *Biodiversity and Heritage Skills Trainee: Yorkshire Wildlife Trust (Potteric Carr, Doncaster, Yorkshire) (1 Placement).  Species surveying and monitoring of vital nature improvement areas. Community engagement, events and activities on key nature sites.
