Description

Arcus is a multi-disciplinary consultancy specialising in the planning and environmental assessment of major infrastructure developments, particularly onshore renewables. As a result of our growing involvement in post-consent and construction services we are seeking to appoint two experienced Ecological Clerk of Work (ECoW) to work on wind farm construction projects in the Highlands or South West Scotland.

The positions will be mainly site based and it is anticipated that the successful candidates will be based locally and able to attend site daily. Working outside office hours, as well as at multiple sites and on other projects, is to be expected and will be supported by a flexible working policy.

Demonstrable ECoW experience is essential, ideally on wind farms or in the uplands, and you must have a thorough understanding of legislation and best practice relevant to wind farms and the range of ecological sensitivities likely to be encountered. Such understanding includes survey methods for a range of species and habitats, knowledge of construction techniques and their likely impacts, and mitigation measures. You will be responsible for undertaking and managing ecological and ornithological surveys, monitoring construction activities, and advising the workforce and project team to ensure compliance with approved method statements and planning obligations.

You will be managed by an Arcus ecologist and supported by the rest of our in-house ecologists and specialist environmental and planning consultants, and you will be responsible for managing inputs from them (and sub-contractors) to support your role.

The role demands excellent communication skills and we expect you to be confident working without immediate supervision and able to make the right decisions in demanding situations. Experience of working with relevant consultees (e.g. SNH) to resolve issues or to seek advice is expected.

You will be responsible for maintaining a log of your activities and routine reporting within Arcus and to clients, and so a good working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets is desirable.

Additional qualifications

  • CSCS (or equivalent) [essential]
  • Full driving licence [essential]
  • Schedule 1 (bird) survey licence
  • One or more protected non-avian species survey licence
  • Experience of working with and obtaining development mitigation licences
Please submit a CV and covering letter to info@arcusconsulting.co.uk.
