Description

Background:

The Eco-Schools programme provides a simple framework to enable schools to analyse their operations and become more sustainable. Pupil involvement is key to Eco-Schools and their involvement leads to genuine ownership of the programme and an increase in their sense of responsibility for the school environment and local area. SCoRE – Schools Collaboration on Resource Efficiency – was developed in collaboration with the Carbon Trust in order to provide some practical guidance to schools to embed energy efficient practices in the school building and population. The Lincolnshire approach builds upon the student-led principle of Eco-Schools and offers further training and support to schools to improve the energy performance of their buildings and the energy awareness of all the building users. Although this programme primarily focuses on energy efficiency, there is scope to develop the offer to schools and include such themes as waste, water and procurement. The post is subject to a Criminal Records Bureau check.

Objective:

Support the delivery of the SCoRE programme to all schools in Lincolnshire over the course of four years. Working closely with all schools as they participate in the programme to deliver results and improve the energy efficiency of the school building and the awareness levels of the school population.

Benefits To Graduate

Working in a dynamic environment, the successful applicant will take on a wide range of challenging activities drawing on a range of skills and provide essential drive and coordination to the Lincolnshire SCoRE programme. They will learn a great deal about sustainability initiatives in the schools sector, as well as strong project management and partnership working skills.

Employment Potential and Options Post Project Work

Permanent work opportunities may arise within the team over the duration of the placement but timing, funding and performance will influence the likelihood of any further opportunities for the graduate within the team.

Outputs:

  1. To deliver the SCoRE programme to 15 clusters of Lincolnshire schools (90 schools) each academic year, in association with another SCoRE Project Officer.
  2. To continually promote and recruit new schools to the SCoRE programme for rolling delivery over 4 years.
  3. To keep all SCoRE resources, training materials and guidance information up to date and relevant.
