Background:

The Eco-Schools programme provides a simple framework to enable schools to analyse their operations and become more sustainable. Pupil involvement is key to Eco-Schools and their involvement leads to genuine ownership of the programme and an increase in their sense of responsibility for the school environment and local area. The Eco-Schools programme delivers volunteering programmes for HSBC and Homebase alongside a partnership with EDF Energy and their educational programme the Pod. The Pod is an interactive on-line resource for teachers of children at Key Stages 2 and 3. It sits at the heart of EDF Energy’s Programme for Greener Schools. To support schools in becoming sustainable Eco-Schools have also developed a range of services to schools including Solar Panels Green Cleaning Products and Energy solutions. The post is subject to a Criminal Records Bureau check.

Objective:

Support the delivery of the Eco-School programme. Work on current and new partnerships that help embed sustainability within schools across England.

Outputs:

  1. To support delivery of large scale ‘Calls to Action’ during the 2012 School year
  2. To develop materials to enable environmental education to be embedded and used in all school types
  3. To support the development of partnerships supporting sustainability in schools

Essential Selection Criteria:

  1. Candidates must be a graduate and be willing to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check
  2. Candidates must possess a valid UK driving licence and/or access to a vehicle insured for business purposes and flexibility for occasionally overnight stays at the Company’s expense
  3. Strong Communicator: demonstrable oral, written and influencing skills
  4. Experience and understanding of working in a team. The candidate should be a strong team player with ability to work under own initiative to solve problems
  5. A strong understanding of and passion for issues relating to climate change and sustainability
  6. Proven experience of working within the field of education, particularly in relation to environmental/climate change issues
  7. A sound understanding of community engagement
  8. Excellent organisational and project management skills and understanding
  9. Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite and understanding and experience of using ICT for organisation and administration in an office environment
  10. Demonstrable presentation skills to different audiences to be able to support the professional delivery of presentations to clients and stakeholder organisations at external events

Desirable Selection Criteria:

  1. Knowledge of Education for Sustainable Development
  2. Experience of delivering projects on time and within budget

Key Tasks:

  1. Work with a range of partners and stakeholders to ensure the success and profile of the programme is assured
  2. Support the Senior Project Officer with Partnership working
  3. Liaise with partners and Local Authorities to develop further working opportunities
  4. Respond to schools enquiries
  5. Organising and attending meetings with all levels of staff and partners as and when required
