We now have a rare student placement opportunity that presents individuals currently studying for a degree to gain practical professional experience as part of our ECO team. The Energy Companies Obligation (ECO) is an energy efficiency programme designed to make larger energy suppliers deliver energy efficiency measures to low income and vulnerable households. This position is ideal for anyone interested in seeing the practical application of the Government’s fuel poverty and environmental sustainability strategies.

As part of the Energy Efficiency team administering the ECO, you will be required to provide administrative support to the rest of the team. You will review the energy efficiency measures installed by energy suppliers, reviewing performance data to assess their eligibility under the ECO scheme. You can expect considerable liaison with energy suppliers, industry, as well as colleagues within Ofgem, so a proactive and customer focused approach to responding to queries will be important. You’ll support the implementation of processes and IT systems that support the effective management of the ECO scheme and identify opportunities to enhance how we work.

You will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Studying for a degree
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Customer service skills
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Experience of Microsoft Office packages essential, specifically Excel
  • Good team player and ability to work under own initiative
  • Highly self motivated, good time management and able to plan and prioritise work
  • An interest in environmental issues is desirable.
