SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

A major component of all Greenpeace activities is the groundwork, training, and support provided through our equipment centers. Tools and theatrical props, as well as climbing, communications, and boating gear are purchased, stored, and maintained in this space, as are all Greenpeace boats, vehicles, and the air division fleet. Furthermore, the warehouses also serve as a base of operations for our activist training program.

Operating and maintaining these spaces requires in-house support of all kinds, from general cleaning to maintenance of expensive and complex equipment to general office support, as well as constant work with volunteers, vendors, and contractors to ensure that all of the above happens.

The warehouse crew helps with all of these functions, spending most days in the equipment center and occasional days in the main office. Further, they may also be called on to assist with general Actions needs, from research and planning to training and on-site logistics.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The IDEAL candidate will know that there is very seldom an ideal candidate as defined by a sheet of paper and a list of criteria. They’ll be motivated and willing to learn, and willing to do non-glamorous work punctuated by a variety of interesting and exciting jobs. Additionally, they will have some knowledge of or at least a strong interest in boats, boating, trailering, climbing, USPS and out-of-the-ordinary shipping.  They’ll be artistic and handy with at least a basic familiarity with tools and building. They’ll keep an eye out for simple improvements that will increase efficiency and functionality. They will be excited to learn and practice a wide array of skills through the position.

The Actions Fellow will be able to work with, support, and help create a safe and constructive space for people of all different cultures, backgrounds, and preferences. They’ll have some understanding of environmental issues, if not an undying love for the environment and complete commitment to every Greenpeace campaign. At the same time, they’ll understand that a ride in a V10 gas guzzler is sometimes necessary to attain certain goals. They’ll also be honest, direct, and frank with a good appreciation for humor. They’ll be open to positive and negative feedback – giving it and receiving it. They will have a commitment to non-violence as a means of effecting change.

If you have an affinity and/or talent for hammers, punctuality, driving boats, paperwork, ropes, vacuuming, small electronics, conference calls, machinery and the environment, you might have a very odd group of friends and you might be the ideal candidate for this position.

Due to complexities with insurance policies that cover people hanging off buildings and the like, the ideal candidate will be at least 21, with a valid and clean driver’s license.
