East Africa Program Head

Maliasili Initiatives is a non-profit organization that supports the growth, development and performance of leading civil society organizations and social entrepreneurs primarily working to advance community-based natural resource management in Africa. Maliasili Initiatives does this by providing its partners with organizational development services combined with technical expertise in the natural resource field and in some instances occasioned with small amounts of core financial support. Our long-term investment aims to build the capacity and enhance the performance of talented, high-impact African natural resource organizations enabling them to be more effective and to take their work to greater scale according to their own ambitions. Currently Maliasili Initiatives supports seven local organizations and social enterprises in East Africa, all of which are leading innovators in the natural resource field.

As Maliasili Initiatives continues to develop its model through building out its knowledge, practice and operations, the organization is looking for an East Africa Program Head who will play a key role in the growth, development and success of Maliasili Initiatives in East Africa.

The new team member will become the lead client-facing service delivery manager for Maliasili Initiatives’ operations in East Africa, supported by the rest of the management team. The Program Head should have proven organizational development or management consulting skills, substantial natural resource technical expertise, and a highly entrepreneurial and collaborative approach to their work, informed by the experience of having worked in East Africa. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with a background in social entrepreneurship and/or business, with strong financial management and/or sales and marketing skills. The new team member will have outstanding teamwork, interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, with a passion for bringing the best out in organizations and people, and a commitment to improving social justice, economic and environmental conservation outcomes in the region.

Maliasili Initiatives offers a supportive team-orientated and flexible working environment. It is expected that the new team member will be based in East Africa, with an ability to travel regularly but in a reasonably family-friendly manner. Maliasili offers a competitive salary in line with the start-up nature of the organization.
