Description

The Cape Eleuthera Island School is looking for a full-time early childhood teacher for our early childhood education program for employee children. The successful candidate will work with children between the ages of 2 to 6 years of age in a multi-age environment. They will be comfortable with numerous models for early childhood education including Montessori, Waldorf and experiential education. This is a new position which requires a pioneer who has played a lead role in the start-up phase of an organization.

Position Description: Early Childhood Educator

The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to::

  • Design a curriculum that helps young children develop social, cognitive, emotional, and physical skills
  • Engage and communicate frequently, affectionately, and respectfully with children during the activities and routines
  • Implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum which reflects observations and goals of individual children
  • Maintain a stimulating, exploratory and language-rich environment that is safe and welcoming
  • Facilitate regular parent/guardian communication and relationships
  • Hold conferences to discuss orientation, transitions, and developmental goals
  • Follow all safety and health rules while supervising all children at all times
  • Demonstrate awareness of the entire group whether working with a small group or individuals
  • Keep the environment and equipment safe, clean and attractive
  • Support organizational mission, philosophies, values, goals, and policies to parent/guardians and coworkers
  • Participate actively in the greater teaching team through communication, collaboration, and curriculum planning
  • Lead the training, development and supervision of the assistant teacher
Minumum Qualifications and Experience:
  • At least 3 years of experience in pre-school, day care and/or primary school setting
  • Bachelor’s of Arts in early childhood education, developmental psychology or other related field
  • Evidence of experience working across cultures or in an international context
  • Curriculum design experience
  • Comfortable living and working in a remote, sub-tropical island within a sustainable community
  • CPR/First Aid
  • Swimming instruction experience and lifeguard certification
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
  • Local, National, CDA or Montessori certification
  • Masters in child development or related field
  • Foreign language fluency
  • Wilderness First Responder certification
Compensation:
