CAT Job Description

 

Job Title:                                   Dyfi Biosphere Education Facilitator

                                               

Salary:                                      £6282 p.a. (pro rata if relevant)

 

Working hours:                          16 hours per week from 9 a.m. till 5.30 p.m. two days a week to be arranged. Due to the late starting date, the candidate will need to work more than two days a week to make up for time lapsed since April – to be agreed with successful candidate.

                                               

Status: This is a fixed term post from 01/04/10 - 31/03/11

 

Job summary:

 

In 2009, the Dyfi Valley was accredited an International Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The Dyfi Biosphere Education Group (DBEG) evolved as a partnership of education representatives from organisations within the Dyfi Biosphere. The aim of this group is to support the pupils and teachers of the 21 schools within the Dyfi Biosphere with learning opportunities related to the vision of the UNESCO Dyfi Biosphere. To date, the group have procured resources for schools, delivered a training day for teachers, and produced a ‘Passport to the Dyfi Biosphere’ as a learning resource for pupils. Funding has been secured for the group to continue it’s activities till 31st March 2011. The successful candidate will be accommodated in the education department at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT), but will coordinate the activity programme for the DBEG for 2010-11.


Responsibilities:

 

  • The successful candidate will be responsible to the Dyfi Biosphere Education Group (DBEG). *
  • To be line managed by the CAT education representative of the Dyfi Biosphere Education Group.
  • To coordinate activities of the Dyfi Biosphere Education Group (DBEG) for the year 2010-11
  • To organise meetings of the Dyfi Biosphere Education Group, including venues, minute taking etc.
  • To manage the budget for the 2010-11 activities
  • To liaise where appropriate with other stakeholders such as the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), UK Commission for UNESCO, Dyfi Biosphere Partnership and the media
  • To organise a one day conference for schools to include refreshments and venue organisation to allow teachers and pupils to share learning and participate in workshops
  • To update the Dyfi Biosphere website with news and opportunities
  • To administer a programme of school bursaries, which will include contacting schools, managing a budget, and facilitate schools with advice on match funding
  • To oversee the organisation of the competition advertised in the Dyfi Biosphere passport
  • To seek and aim to secure long term funding for this role and the activities of the Dyfi Biosphere Education Group

 

* The DBEG is a partnership of education representatives from Cwmni Cynnal, CCW, Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust, RSPB, Powys County Council, Coetiroedd Dyfi Woodland, Farming and Countryside Education, and CAT.

 

 

All Permanent Staff – Co-operative Duties

 

·         To attend a minimum of 6 monthly staff meetings per year (or such other number as may be agreed with the Management Group).

·         To consider issues presented to the staff body and be involved in the consensus decision-making process regarding such issues.

·         To input to policy development when policies are proposed by the Directions Team

·         To input to the strategy process when requested by the Directions Team.

·         To comply with all CAT’s policies and processes as they are amended from time to time. To read and act upon policies and processes as they are approved.

·         To be responsible for own health and safety plus that of others as defined in the job description. To report to the Health and Safety Committee any matters of concern regarding health and safety.

·         To co-ordinate the development of ideas and resources for use in schools with the help of the partnership.
