Friends of the Lake District is:
- The only charity wholly dedicated to protecting the landscape of Cumbria and the Lake District for the future.
- a registered charity, founded in 1934, to promote and organise concerted action for the protection and conservation of the landscape and natural beauty of Cumbria and the Lake District, and to work with other bodies with similar objectives or interests
- a membership organisation with around 6000 members and affiliated organisations from Cumbria, the United Kingdom and around the world
- has represented the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) in Cumbria since 1978
- works closely with local organisations and liases with national
and regional bodies
- has a governing body of twelve elected Trustees
- has 15 part time members of staff, based at Murley Moss, Kendal in Cumbria
