Description |
Code REDD is an emergency action campaign to save the threatened forests of the world. Code REDD is a radically new type of campaign that aims to solve two of the most pressing issues of our time;
It turns out that a United Nations designed mechanism called REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation) provides a solution to both challenges, by asking forward thinking corporate leaders, like our Code REDD Corporate Champions, to reduce their effective carbon footprint by financing innovative forest protection projects implemented by pioneering organizations like our Code REDD Project Developers. REDD+ works because deforestation is driven by economic forces, and REDD+ makes forest more valuable alive than dead, giving forest communities, and forest governments a viable economic alternative to destroying their forests in the name of development. This radical new REDD+ solution is proving itself in pioneering forest protection projects around the world. But it needs to grow very quickly to meet the massive scale of the deforestation challenge if we are to avoid the worst effects of climate change. The Code REDD Campaign aims to generate that rapid growth, by finding creative ways to attract more and more Corporate Champions, directly financing more and more high quality REDD+ projects that meet the most stringent quality standards available today. We aim to make it impossible for companies to say no to the campaign, because of all the goodwill they generate in the marketplace for joining. So this is where you come in. We need you to help us celebrate those Corporate Champions who pledge to support a REDD+ project . The Code REDD Campaign was established in November 2011 and launched at the Rio+20 Summit in June 2012 to drive adoption of an equitable, scalable economic solution to deforestation. The Code REDD Campaign is an open initiative. It brings together corporations, REDD+ project developers, indigenous forest owners, forest nation governments, NGOs, verification organizations, standards bodies, market platforms and the concerned public to stop the scourge of deforestation. Code REDD was initially funded and launched by Wildlife Works, a REDD+ project developer that aims to use the economic power of consumers to create sustainable conservation solutions. |
