DIRECTORY ENTRY: Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment (AWARE)

The Association of Whistler Area Residents for the Environment (AWARE) is a volunteer driven non-profit charity.  Originally formed in 1989 with a mandate to push for a recycling program within the Resort Municipality of Whistler.

We are active on environmental and sustainability issues in our valley, and work to protect the fast vanishing wilderness in our backyard.   AWARE sees a sensible balanced approach to environmental sustainability as the only option for our future, from environmental, social and economic perspectives.

AWARE is run entirely by volunteers, from individuals committing to the organizations working Board, to people helping out with specific projects, such as the AWARE Nature Kids Club or at events.  With over 300 members AWARE is the longest running environmental organization in Whistler.
