Description

Over 800 million people still live without access to electricity. Will you join us to change that by 2030?

An independent, global campaign, Shine accelerates funding, investment, and support for distributed solutions to clean energy access. We focus on increasing the flow of resources to enterprises, initiatives and approaches targeting the hardest-to-reach, women’s leadership, and community livelihoods and ownership.

Shine is a community of over 40 values-driven investors, donors, grant makers and leaders, representatives of the philanthropic foundation, faith and NGO sectors. We’re united by our values and a belief that local leaders, marginalized and vulnerable communities, women and those left behind by large-scale energy access projects and the fossil fuel sector are indispensable to a sustainable future.

Shine is seeking a strategic visionary to work with our team and partners and to recruit new partners to actualise our vital mission. Reporting to Shine’s Executive Committee and collaborating with its expert Steering Committee, the Director will be an effective campaigner, with a nuanced appreciation of how to bring together partners from the faith, development, and philanthropic sectors to mobilise capital and grants, scale resources, and generate momentum to support just, distributed solutions to clean energy access. The Director is also responsible for the day-to-day management and activities of the campaign, its operations and staff.

We are seeking candidates who are creative, bold, pragmatic and results-oriented. The successful candidate will be a strong public representative for the Shine Campaign, with excellent communication skills and the ability to inspire others to increase and direct investments, grants, and related programs in support of truly last-mile energy access. If you are passionate about the mission of empowering grassroots, in-country, community leaders and energy champions and bring the leadership experience and skills to build momentum for the Shine Campaign, we look forward to hearing from you.

The location of this role is flexible. The majority of current Shine staff are based in the NYC-Washington DC area in the United States.

Coronavirus caveat: The health and wellbeing of our staff and stakeholders are of utmost importance to us. Since we are in the midst of the pandemic, the timeline has many unknowns but at this point we hope the Shine Campaign Director will begin work in September 2020. We will only interview candidates in-person if it is safe to do so, and we are committed and confident in a virtual recruitment process where necessary. Furthermore, we note that the appointed candidate will likely be unable to travel in the role for some time.

Applicant's qualifications will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other basis prohibited by law.
