We are looking for an exceptional manager to help lead a team that supports the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder to manage the Commonwealth's environmental water to help protect and restore rivers, floodplains and wetlands in the Murray-Darling Basin.

The functions of the Environmental Water Branch include: developing, assessing and delivery watering actions that maximise environmental outcomes; maintaining a water register and managing a portfolio of water assets; ensuring effective monitoring, evaluation and reporting on use of Commonwealth environmental water; and, developing the policy and operational frameworks that support use of the Commonwealth's environmental water. With holdings of more than 800 gigalitres and growing, the holdings are a substantial investment of public resources.  Being able to monitor and report on the environmental benefits is vital.  Further information on the Commonwealth's environmental water can be found at:http://www.environment.gov.au/water/environmental/cewh/index.html.

The Environmental Water Branch is part of the Water Group, a dynamic, growing area of the Department that advises on policy and implements programs that are at the centre of water reform in Australia and deliver on the Government’s Water for the Future initiative. Key objectives of Water for the Future are: adapting to climate change, using water wisely, securing water supplies and improving the health of our rivers, waterways and freshwater ecosystems.

This recruitment process may be used to establish an eligibility list or to offer other similar positions including elsewhere in the Water Group of the Department. Further information about the Water Group’s activities can be found at http://www.environment.gov.au/water/index.html
