POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, Sustainable Fashion provides strategic and technical leadership on CI’s engagements with the fashion sector to identify and implement responsible business practices that can deliver positive impacts for healthy ecosystems and human well-being. Core responsibilities of the position include:

  • Strategy & Technical Expertise: Development and implementation of CI’s Sustainable Fashion Sector strategy and coordination and support CI’s institutional approach to the sector; Provide technical input to strategic projects with key companies and multi-stakeholder approaches w/the sector, Provide Finance & Operations team with timely information needed for the success of projects; Draw on experience and understanding of tools and methodologies in other sectors and supply chains to support efforts w/in the fashion sector; Support account leads responsible for major corporate relationships relevant to the sector, through the provision of subject-matter expertise and regular contact on program and project issues with senior-level counterparts at major corporations engaged with CI.
  • Fundraising: Engage with fashion sector companies to identify partnership opportunities, develop proposals and secure commitments that support common objectives and CI’s mission.
  • Oversight & Delivery: Supervise cross-institutional teams to ensure timely delivery of high quality outputs on key companies and multistakeholder engagements; Coordinate activities of projects and the governing bodies; Provide essential liaison between delivery partners on outputs and the needs of companies (e.g. in terms of communicating technical and scientific results); Support external sub-grantee contracts and ensure delivery on contract; Track progress against outputs and outcomes and ensure timely financial and technical reporting.
  • Communication & capacity building: Develop and implement communications strategy associated with the fashion sector portfolio; Represent and promote CI to key internal and external audiences on fashion related issues (e.g. conferences, industry associations, multi-stakeholder platforms, publications, media interviews); Support the growth of technical capacity for fashion sector engagements with target audiences, internally and externally.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategy & Technical Expertise: Development and implementation of CI’s Sustainable Fashion Sector strategy and coordination and support CI’s institutional approach to the sector.
  • Project Oversight & Delivery: Supervise cross-institutional teams to ensure timely delivery of high quality outputs on key companies and multi-stakeholder engagements
  • Fundraising: Engage with fashion sector companies to identify partnership opportunities and develop proposals
  • Communication & capacity building: Represent and promote CI to key internal and external audiences on fashion related issues e.g. conferences, industry associations, multi-stakeholder platforms, publications, media interviews.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The position can be based in one of CI’s established US offices (Arlington or Seattle) to be agreed upon hiring.
  • Requires domestic and international travel up to 40% of the time.
  • This is a fixed-term position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related subject or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience, with 5 of those working with sustainable supply chains.
  • Private sector experience.
  • Strong project management skills including demonstrated field project experience in developing countries.
  • Experience working directly with international partners from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Strong problem solving and output-focused analytical skills.
  • Experience-based technical knowledge of business practices relevant to the fashion and agricultural sectors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Masters in natural resource management, sustainability, or similar.

  • Masters in natural resource management, sustainability, or similar.
  • Non-profit experience
  • Demonstrated passion for international conservation and development
  • Foreign language proficiency e.g. French, Spanish, Portuguese.
