Director, Sustainability – Decatur, Illinois
Office of Compliance and Ethics
This is an exempt level position.

The primary responsibility of this role is to establish and manage programs, practices, goals and strategic relationships for sustainability initiatives across the enterprise.

The Right Results the Right Way. At ADM, this phrase captures our insistence on achieving our business goals in a sustainable, ethical and socially responsible way. We are keenly aware that our far-reaching agribusiness enterprise touches an extraordinary number of people and places around the world, and we are determined to ensure that our impact remains overwhelmingly positive.

In addition to the more than 27,000 colleagues who depend on ADM for their livelihoods, we serve thousands of customers around the world whose businesses rely on our business to keep them supplied with crops, with food and feed ingredients, and with alternative fuels and industrial products. Farmers count on us to connect their crops with global markets, which help them build sustainable futures for their families and rural communities. Our investors depend on us to do our job profitably, and to grow over time. Our suppliers and business partners entrust us to conduct business honorably and to operate in our mutual interest. And our communities depend on us to help them remain vibrant places to live and work. These stakeholders have a right to expect that AD M will honor the trust they have placed in us.

In 2007, we formally adopted a definition of sustainability, which stated our commitment to:
• serve as responsible stewards of the Earth’s resources and environment;
• enhance the economic and social well-being of our colleagues and the communities in which we live and operate;
• create mutually beneficial relationships with business partners; and
• act with the highest level of integrity in all we do.

We fulfill this commitment in many ways, by:
• providing good jobs and safe working conditions for our colleagues;
• offering economic opportunity to our diverse suppliers and partners;
• ensuring the integrity and security of our supply chain;
• improving the efficiency of our water and energy usage and working to offset or minimize the environmental impact of our processing operations;
• investing in the well-being of the communities where we source and process crops; and
• maintaining strong corporate-governance standards that enhance accountability and help drive strong performance companywide.

We formed a Sustainability Steering Committee to establish corporate direction and policy and ensure that organizational activities align with our commitment to sustainability. We have now determined that we need a dedicated resource to help further our development of a global sustainability program and deliver on company goals for sustainable practices.
