The primary responsibility of this role is to establish and manage programs, practices, goals and strategic relationships for sustainability initiatives across the enterprise. In 2007, we formally adopted a definition of sustainability, which stated our commitment to: • serve as responsible stewards of the Earth’s resources and environment; • enhance the economic and social well-being of our colleagues and the communities in which we live and operate; • create mutually beneficial relationships with business partners; and • act with the highest level of integrity in all we do. We fulfill this commitment in many ways, by: • providing good jobs and safe working conditions for our colleagues; • offering economic opportunity to our diverse suppliers and partners; • ensuring the integrity and security of our supply chain; • improving the efficiency of our water and energy usage and working to offset or minimize the environmental impact of our processing operations; • investing in the well-being of the communities where we source and process crops; and • maintaining strong corporate-governance standards that enhance accountability and help drive strong performance companywide. We formed a Sustainability Steering Committee to establish corporate direction and policy and ensure that organizational activities align with our commitment to sustainability. We have now determined that we need a dedicated resource to help further our development of a global sustainability program and deliver on company goals for sustainable practices. Key responsibilities include: • Collaborating with and leading business units and / or functional areas in managing issues and implementing programs and processes to address issues within their respective area of responsibility • Monitoring outcomes to ensure desired results • Identifying and capitalizing on improvement opportunities • Preparing, communicating and educating colleagues on changes in policies and practices within the organization • Recommending strategies for proactively addressing relevant sustainability issues impacting / potentially impacting the company • Maintaining external relationships and developing channels for dialogue with key stakeholders including customers, trade associations and non government organizations. • Conducting research into emerging trends, programs and related subject areas. • Advising and providing assistance to the Sustainability Steering Committee Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Position requires a Bachelor’s degree • Demonstrated leadership ability • At least five years of management level experience providing overall direction and driving large strategic initiatives • Experience with leading and facilitating cross functional groups • Ability to work successfully with people of diverse functional and cultural backgrounds • Strong passion for sustainability • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time (domestic and international). • Knowledge of ADM and/or a commodity-based and process oriented business is a plus Relocation assistance is available with this position.
