SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

The Director, Solar Lean Deployment will identify, support and drive Lean improvement opportunities that will enhance MEMC’s performance across the solar business. This role will direct efforts in driving Lean performance improvement and facilitate cultural integration of Lean to achieve targeted business results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and drive MEMC Lean activities at all Sites, manufacturing and non-manufacturing.
  • Facilitate projects to reduce waste, improve cycle time, increase working capital turns, improve margin and achieve on time delivery.
  • Support management in identifying key improvement priorities to enhance Site and MEMC performance in the eyes of all stakeholders
  • Lead the site’s Continuous Improvement activities and develop the local management and training delivery support
  • Facilitate key improvement activities through Kaizens
  • Creative and proactive contributor to the department management teams
  • Continually develop herself/ himself and Site coaches
  • Work closely with local Lean champions to introduce and sustain a MEMC Lean Culture
    • Ensure Lean methods and tools are understood, accepted and implemented at assigned locations
    • Provide subject matter expertise on Lean tools on-site.
  • Create and manage infrastructure to provide training and coaching to site improvement teams and personnel
  • Prepare training packages, train and coach site employees on the use of techniques and principles of Lean Manufacturing
  • Ensure and track the results and means to achieve the improvement action plan • Support regional and local external partners to train and develop employees on Lean methods and tools • Provide specialist expertise to the MEMC Community
  • Support cross-region or company improvement programs and audits
  • Identify and implement best practices

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education/Experience:
    • Degree in Engineering, Science or analytical discipline with at least 8 years of relevant experience of which 5 years in management
    • Thorough understanding of Lean and 6 Sigma principles with appropriate certifications. Lean Masters and 6 Sigma Black Belts preferred.
    • Candidates that have been part of previous lean transformations preferred.
    • Proven experience facilitating Kaizen projects to achieve business results
    • Experience with SAP is preferred
    • Experienced in successfully deploying Continuous Improvement programs (Lean and Six Sigma) in an operations environment
    • Project and facilitation experience in a heavily matrixed environment
    • Candidates with experience as an IE/Manufacturing/ME, Lean Manufacturing Manager or Business improvement Manager in high volume, high-technology environment preferred
